From family-friendly to hardcore, from canyon to mesa, and from mountain to road, biking in Taos runs the gamut. Regardless of what you choose, you will find breathtaking beauty, unparalleled variety, and maybe even a heart-pounding challenge.

Road biking in Taos can take you on some epic climbs past unbelievable scenery; take, for example, the hardy souls powering up the road to Taos Ski Valley, peaking at over 9000 feet in elevation. The Rio Hondo cascades down the mountain roadside as lofty peaks rise above you; it’s almost enough to distract you from the burn in your legs and lungs! Road biking loops ranging from a dozen to over 100 miles crisscross the Taos area and The Enchanted Circle; you needn’t ever ride the same route twice.

There’s plenty of off-road biking to enjoy in Taos as well. You can let the kids loose on hard-packed dirt trails that roll gently through the woods or along sage-covered mesas. Taos Ski Valley boasts novice terrain as well as more demanding trails served by chairlift. If it’s a real challenge that you’re after, steep climbs, narrow canyons, and technical trails can be found throughout the Taos area. Local outfitters are ready to get you geared up and help you find the terrain your heart desires.
