My Dearest Taos,
I remember the first time I saw you. From a distance, I couldn’t help but be awe-struck by your wild beauty. And through you, a new world opened up to me.
I was young, and your wisdom and strength and color and joy immediately enchanted me. From that moment on, I was forever changed as my sense of adventure and freedom awakened. You’ve taught me so much, and our relationship has grown over the years.
We shared gorgeous views, hidden mountain moments, and rivers of renewal. Our excitement spanned every season, from long summer days and nights, and the changing hues of fall, to snowy slopes of winter, and the rebirth of spring. Remember all the times we dined together? And the music and dances! Walking through the streets, at every turn, I marveled at the art inspired by you.
Oh, sacred one, you are my sanctuary, my escape, and I pledge you my devotion.
My love for you reaches from the blue sky above to the depths of my soul. And I know I am not alone in this endearment. You have sustained life, enlightened generations, and ignited fires of greatness in many, old and young. People from near and far gather in your presence with the desire to know you and encounter your rustic and refined charm and feel your energy.
Now that we must be apart, my longing for you is even stronger. One day soon I will return, and we will be together again. Until then, I will dream of you and plan our next encounter.
