Taos affords a rich tapestry of choice for the chamber music aficionado during all seasons of the year. From musicians of national and international reputation to the talented regional artists found in the Taos community, there is rarely a time when the classical music lover is not able to indulge in a transcendent performance, and many plan their visit around the calendars of favorite performers or offerings. Summer and early fall are especially good times to include a concert in your travel plans. Programs are tailored to the season – typically the Taos Chamber Music Group (TCMG) presents a Baroque series during the winter holidays, but all like to mix it up a bit. For example, this year TCMG presented A Mozart Holiday to rave reviews.
Fresh, imaginative and unexpected, classical music in Taos is always a delightful experience!
Recognized for creative programming and first-class artistry, the Taos Chamber Music Group embarks on its third decade of “wild and scenic” music from September through May. Seven different programs combine TCMG’s signature mix of chamber music masterpieces, seldom-heard surprises, and multidisciplinary collaborations inspired by our home in Taos.
TCMG’s roster of performers includes some of NM’s finest musicians as well as guest artists from around the world. Concerts take place in the Arthur Bell Auditorium at the Harwood Museum of Art where TCMG is the Resident Chamber Music Group and at a private home made for music in Des Montes. All performances begin at 5:00pm so that you can enjoy dinner out afterwards at one of our participating restaurants.

For over 50 years, Taos School of Music has been dedicated to furthering the appreciation, understanding, and performance of chamber music by helping young string and piano students develop their musical awareness and comprehension. In the process, the organization provides Taos audiences with the finest chamber music concerts possible. The renowned faculty in residence includes the Borromeo, Shanghai and Brentano Quartets, pianists Robert McDonald and Thomas Sauer and violist Michael Tree, founding member of the Guarneri String Quartet. Faculty performances are interspursed with Young Artist Concerts held at Taos Community Auditorium (faculty concerts are $20 and Young Artists Concerts $8) and at Hotel St. Bernard in Taos Ski Valley (free of charge). The nineteen young artists, ages 18-29, come from top national and international music conservatories.
