Parking for attendees will be at the Taos Mesa Brewing parking lot. Shuttle service to the airport will begin at 9:30am until 10:30am from Taos Mesa Brewing. Shuttle service for return attendees from the airport will begin at 12pm.
No cars will be allowed inside the Taos Airport fence.

  • Approximately 1,000,000 cubic yards of excavation including basalt rock.
  • 32 blasts were needed to excavate the basalt rock. Each blast required as many as 500 holes, drilled 7 to 15 feet deep and used up to 7,000 lbs explosives.
  • 740,000 cubic yards of earthwork embankment (fill) placed.
  • 8 inches of crushed aggregate base course on 16 inches of subbase. Most material was crushed onsite from the the excavated basalt rock.
  • 1,800 tests for compaction on the earthwork and base courses.
  • 33,100 linear feet (over 6 miles) of underdrain pipe.
  • Approximately 200 cubic yards of 4,000 psi concrete used for ducts and bases for PAPIs, lights and signs.
  • 58,000 linear feet (over 10 miles) of electrical conduit for PAPIs, lights and signs.
  • 44,000 tons of hot mix asphalt to pave Runway 13/31 and the taxiways.
  • 1,510 gallons of paint used to mark the runway.
  • Over 250 acres of hydroseed to re-vegetate disturbed areas with native species.
  • Weather events: February 2015: 14 inches snow – the melting snow delayed start earthwork that season, then Summer of 2015 had about 28 days of rain and the resulting muddy conditions caused significant delays for the contractor. 2017 has also had heavy, monsoon rains toward the end of the project delaying the work.
