Doc Martins Restaurant Taos
Home to The Adobe Bar and the famed Doc Martin’s Restaurant, The “Inn” as it is affectionately referred to by locals, is a historical landmark in Taos.
The Restaurant is named after Dr. Thomas Paul (Doc) Martin who was the county's first physician. "Doc" arrived to Taos in the 1890's and bought one the largest Adobe homes in the Taos Inn complex. Doc was a caring man and loved by many. He traveled by horse and cart for miles to treat patients in need.
Doc's wife, Helen, was a gifted batik artist and the sister-in-law of Bert Phillips, one of the "Taos founders". It was in the Martin's dining room where Phillips and Blumenschein founded the Taos Society of Artists. In 1935 Dr Thomas Martin passed away and in the same year the only Hotel in Taos burnt to the ground. That year Helen purchased an additional building within the complex, enclosed the plaza and opened the Hotel Martin in 1936. Throughout the years the Hotel Martin has been the central gathering place for socialites and creatives. In 1982, the Inn was placed on the National and State Registers of Historic Places. The name was changed to "Taos Inn" by subsequent owners.
Today, Doc Martins Restaurant offers a fine dining experience in a historical setting steeped in history.
