Taos Inspires Art

Taos is known for its landscape. Wide open mesas, jagged mountains, and clear blue skies . The light, serenity, and surroundings of the Southwest have inspired artists for generations.

Influential and internationally renowned Taos artists, Ken Price, Larry Bell, R. C. Gorman, and Beatrice Mandelman all called Taos home. These individuals played significant roles in various movements — from Mandelman’ association with the Taos Moderns, to Gorman’s prominent work in contemporary Native American art, to Price and Bell’s involvement in “The Cool School”.

The beauty of and the light in Taos inspired their work in different ways, and the solitude and tranquility that can be found here, helped fuel their creativity. Works from all of these artists can be found in our museums and galleries and the high desert light that inspired them continues to inspire our artist.
