Taos boasts many great local restaurants, cafes, bistros, and food carts where you can find a wide variety of delicious breakfast options. Whether you’re looking for a quick hand-held breakfast burrito on the go, or a sit-down Sunday brunch with mimosas and friends, you’ll find it in Taos.

Traditional New Mexican fare is a must have experience while eating in Taos, but there are also restaurants that serve up classic American breakfasts, latin-fusion creations, and even great vegan and vegetarian breakfast options. There is something for everyone’s breakfast palate in Taos.

Before heading out for breakfast in Taos, we suggest that you contact the restaurant to confirm hours. The following list is organized from South to North, beginning in Ranchos de Taos and going to Arroyo Seco.


Ranchos Plaza Grill

Traditional New Mexican Cuisine
Hours: Wed-Sun 8am-2pm. Closed Monday and Tuesday.

This family run restaurant in Ranchos de Taos serves traditional New Mexican food and is one of a few places in Taos where you still get sopapillas (a kind of traditional fried bread) served with your orders. Vegetarian diners can substitute their standard red or green chile sauce for the “vegetarian green”.

Don’t let the name fool you – while its original incarnation was that of a food truck, the Chow Cart now has two locations in Taos, both with a drive up window and a sit-down dining room. Grab a booth and enjoy a meal or grab a breakfast burrito to-go from the drive thru.
