Whether it’s a paddle or a fishing line you’re looking to spend time with, Taos offers a sweet and diverse selection of lakes, river stretches and holes to ride, wade and angle in. The best whitewater rafting in New Mexico is found here. So are the most promising holes for fly- and bait-fishing. (Fall is especially good for Rainbows and Browns.)
RAFTING
There’s a river trip for everyone, from mild to wild. The water in the high desert will surprise and thrill you, if thrills are what you’re after. Ride the Taos Box rapids, with names like Dead Car and Pinball, or coast the mellow stretches of the Rio Chama. Then visit one of our hot springs along the way and melt into the landscape!

FISHING
What’s your pleasure? Easy access, solitude, or a little bushwhacking? Lake or river? Taos waters can accommodate. Northern New Mexico offers mid-summer anglers a welcome relief from the summer heat. We also offer a range of choices for bountiful lake and public and private river fishing. Our waters are well-known for excellent trout fishing. Along with Rainbow, Brown and Brook Trout, the Taos area is home to the native Rio Grande Cutthroat trout.

RED RIVER FISHING
Red River offers many opportunities for fun and enjoyment from the river that flows through town to the Town of Red River fishing pond. Prime lake fishing, wild streams, special “catch-and-release” water… we’ve got it all!
HOT SPRINGS
New Mexico is blessed with some of the finest hot springs on the planet. There are beautiful springs at the end of a long hike in the wilderness, lovely gems that are only a short hike, and resorts that run the gamut from rustic to luxurious. However you like to soak, there’s a pool for you. When you lower yourself into one of our hot springs, surrounded by incredible beauty of this area and close your eyes, the feeling is simply fantastic.
OJO CALIENTE MINERAL SPRINGS AND SPA
Just south of Taos, you’ll find Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs' secluded sanctuary. Deemed sacred by Native Americans, these legendary waters have been soothing body, mind & spirit naturally for centuries.

If you like your water around 97 degrees, Taos has several hot spots for you right beside the Rio Grande.
KAYAKING
It doesn’t have to be all about rafting. Plenty of river lovers take to Taos area rivers paddling. Not to be left out, boaters have plenty of lake options to choose from as well. That includes Racecourse and Lower Taos Box on the Rio Grande. The abundance of tall mountains and north-central New Mexico's location just south of the Colorado Rockies create cascades of whitewater every spring. From small tributaries to the ‘Mother’ Rio Grande, the north-central waterways are a river runner's paradise.

COTTAM'S RIO GRANDE RAFTING
Cottam's offers one-person and two-person 'funyaks'. Funyaks are small, canoe-shaped inflatable rafts that are paddled with kayak paddles. They are a popular option for those seeking an additional challenge.

Learn to paddle yourself through the rapids, improve your skills, or introduce your kids to a sport that can take them all over the world.
PADDLEBOARDING
Standup paddling, or SUP, originated in the Hawaiian Islands and is fast becoming the paddle sport of choice not only on the coast but on rivers and lakes throughout the southwest.
NEW MEXICO RIVER ADVENTURES
We offer a full day guided adventure for the beginner or novice stand up paddle boarder. With a variety of beautiful class 2-3 sections, the Rio Grande is the perfect destination for the SUP enthusiast.
COTTAM'S RIO GRANDE RAFTING
Cottam's offer paddleboard trips that are suitable for all skill levels- beginners to advanced. Paddleboard your way down a 5 mile section of the Rio Grande (mostly calm waters). This activity lasts about 2-3 hours.
YOGA ON A PADDLEBOARD
Is your yoga routine getting a little stale? If you're looking for a new challenge, yoga on a stand up paddle board will reinvigorate you and push you to become an even better yogi than you thought possible.
SWIMMING
For a small town, Taos boast first-rate facilities with friendly sports and fitness experts. We’re relaxed but love our recreation here. We take fun, and safety seriously, so you and your family can enjoy every minute of doing what you like to do best, even if it’s just doing the doggie paddle with a toddler in one of our heated pools.
OJO CALIENTE MINERAL SPRINGS AND SPA
Our sulphur-free, geothermal mineral waters have flowed from a subterranean volcanic aquifer for thousands of years. Ojo is the only hot springs in the world with four different types of mineral water including lithia, iron, soda, arsenic.
QUAIL RIDGE RESORT
Pool hours are 8am – 8pm daily. The pool is available for lap swimming before 10am and after 5pm. Swimming lessons for all levels, children and adults, will be available over the summer. There is a membership fee to use the pool.
TAOS SPA AND TENNIS RESORT
Taos Spa and Tennis Resort has a large outdoor heated pool and two outdoor hot tubs along with an indoor pool, hot tub and sauna. Daily admission is available.
TAOS YOUTH AND FAMILY CENTER
Welcome to the Taos Aquatic Center. The new, state of the art swimming pool aqui in Taos. We offer a variety of programs for all ages. We offer "Steam Builder" water aerobics, group swim, lap swim, recreation swim, and toddler time.
MULTI SPORT ADVENTURES
