BACK TO PERFORMING ARTS

theatre

The Taos area is brimming with talented thespians, writers, directors and staging professionals. Drawing on the skills of our many talented expatriates from New York, Los Angeles and around the country, you are sure to be delighted with the quality of a Taos stage production.

Metta Theatre
This intimate venue puts the audience right in the action. Drawing from some of the smaller – off Broadway and other – plays by well-known playwrights of the 20th century for their material, this talented ensemble cast of players, directors and staging artists bring their enthusiasm and love of the performing arts to their well-reviewed performances to life on a regular basis. 1470 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte.. 575-758-1104

Teatro Serpiente
Teatro Serpiente is a true community theater effort that brings theater directly to the communities in Taos and the surrounding area by staging productions at nearly every theater space in the region (home stage in Des Montes; Metta Theater; Dixon’s Toolshed) and at both Taos Mesa Brewing and KTAOS Solar Center. 575-737-8574

Taos Center for the Arts
The Taos Community Auditorium at the TCA offers a variety of performing arts, including local theatre and The Met Live in HD, a high-resolution broadcast from the Metropolitan Opera. 575-758-2052

Penasco Theatre
On the high road from Taos to Santa Fe, one of the first communities you’ll visit on your travels is Penasco, situated in a lush valley that has been farmed for hundreds of years. In the heart of town you’ll find the Peñasco Theatre, hand-built of local adobe in 1940 by Amado Roybal. Today the Peñasco Theatre Collective, a group of performers and visual artists that call the theatre home, continue the tradition of utilizing the arts to bring people together in a mutually respectful culturally diverse environment. It’s a movie theatre, an adult and youth circus arts program, a visual arts workshop for kids, and a live performance space hosting professional performances.
