May 2012 in Taos TRAVEL ALERT: Temporary Gorge Bridge Closure, May '12
The air is fragrant with lilacs in Taos, “One of the best small towns in America” (Smithsonian magazine, April 2012)! There’s still snow on Taos Mountain but rafters and kayakers have turned their attention to the Rio Grande and Rio Chama. Cyclists are on the roads and mountain trails. Taos area campgrounds open this month.
Community events in May include the Santa Cruz Feast Day dances at Taos Pueblo, Mother’s Day weekend concerts (chamber music and traditional New Mexican), Remarkable Women of Taos events, and Memorial Day ceremonies in both Red River and Angel Fire.
