Stand-up Paddleboarding

Standup paddling, or SUP, originated in the Hawaiian Islands and is fast becoming the paddle sport of choice not only on the coast but on rivers and lakes throughout the southwest. SUP offers amazing fitness, balance and coordination in a non-intimidating, fun manor appealing to all ages. Northern New Mexico offers the perfect waters for stand-up paddleboarding on rivers.

With more than one beginner stretch in which to "get your feet wet," you'll find the Rio Grande and the Rio Chama the best places for an introduction to this very popular new sport. In the later summer months the combination of water levels and warm water temperatures make the Rio Grande the perfect river to learn to SUP. As well, the incredibly scenic canyons and calm rapids of the Rio Chama provide a wonderful multi-day paddleboarding adventure. New Mexico River Adventures is the first full service SUP outfitter in the state of New Mexico offering rentals, lessons and guided tours on the pristine rivers and lakes in the great state of New Mexico. Cottam's Rio Grande Rafting Company also rents paddleboards.
