Taos, NM Named as One of ‘America’s Prettiest Towns’ by Forbes Magazine
TAOS, NM — Taos, New Mexico has been named by Forbes magazine as one of “America’s Prettiest Towns.”
Forbes said that Taos is “... a stunningly beautiful mountain community ... (which) has earned a reputation for one of the country’s most captivating small towns. Taos retains its small town feel while increasingly becoming an artistic hub.”
Taos’ traditional architectural style, blue skies and majestic mountains were noted in the article. Taos Pueblo – the only living Native American community designated both a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and a National Historic Landmark – was also mentioned prominently as a “top tourist destination.”
“Taos is a draw not only because of the natural beauty of its open landscape, clear skies and abundant light; but for the beauty of our cultural landscape that plays an essential role in defining who we are through our art, food, music, and history,” said Town of Taos Mayor Darren Cordova. “Taos offers more than a vacation; it is a meaningful journey which makes such a positive impact, that many have chosen never to leave here. Such is the case with many of the remarkable women, who we celebrate this year, that made and continue to shape Taos.”
Taos’ “Remarkable Women of Taos” continues throughout 2012, and has several offerings that tie into the theme including: workshops, customized and self guided tours, and special events. For details, visit www.taos.org/women.
