Forecast for Taos: Even More Authentic Summer Events with a Good Chance of Relaxation

TAOS, NM — August 9, 2011—All Taos area forests are now open once again for hiking, biking and camping, with fire restrictions reduced to Stage 1 in the Carson National Forest. Taos outdoor activities continue to expand in the months of August and September – ranging from outdoor festivals to cultural events, sports competitions, and much more.

Recent monsoon rains have improved conditions in the forested areas of Taos and Taos Ski Valley, allowing for Stage 1 restrictions. Those restrictions mean that campfires are now allowed; instead, only Forest Service-provided grills and grates in developed recreation sites are permitted.  For current fire restrictions, call (877) 864-6985 or visit www.fs.fed.us/r3/ or www.nmfireinfo.com.

A cool summer getaway, Taos Ski Valley will also be the gathering place on August 13 for the “Up and Over Trail Run” – a challenging, high-altitude 10k run. The race begins at 9 a.m. at the base of lift #1. Pre-registration is $30 or $35 on race day. Visit taosskivalley.com/trailrun for details.
