Mother's Day Weekend: Whitewater and Music!
MOTHER’S DAY RIO GRANDE WHITEWATER FESTIVAL
Orrilla Verde Recreation Area, Pilar NM
Friday to Sunday, May 10 to 12, 2013
The whitewater festival brings excitement and fun for all ages, including Moms. It will benefit regional river communities, paddle sport camaraderie, and adventure tourism while providing educational awareness about river and aquatic ecosystems and the national push for a “Blue Revolution." Events include Mother's Day Races (the second oldest kayak and rafting race west of the Mississippi!), fly fishing demos, migratory bird events, interpretive hikes led by BLM rangers, and lots of parties.
Events begin on Friday with a River Rendezvous at Rio Bravo Campground in Pilar where many water experts will discuss issues relating to protection of New Mexico's river systems. This event, traditionally a river guide educational training event, will be open to the public for the first time with lunch provided by The Pilar Yacht Club. Tickets for the entire day including lunch is $15 or $5 for a la carte speakers in the morning and afternoon. Please go to www.raftnewmexico.org for the event schedule.
